I'm currently finishing THE GIRL WITH NO SHADOW, and I'm again struck by the richness of your characters. From Vianne, to Zozie, to the evolving Anouk, and all the characters in between, it's as if they're real-life people. How do you do it? What is your character creation process?

Joanne Harris I try to treat them as real-life people: to find out as many different details about them as possible. If I can really believe in them, then I reckon maybe my readers can, too...

I was wondering of something: I read for the third time blackberry wine, and some actings of the supporting charachters like Kerry and Mireille make me very angry, as they are so hateful. Kerry thinks only to make money and Mireille is just "Toni, Toni and Toni! He is my perfect adorable son, and it's all Marise fault". If you used some real life people to invent them, who were them?
