I don't set out to write lead characters as representations (however idealized) of myself. That said, it's inevitable that what a writer sees as "the right or wrong thing to do" in a situation is really a mixture of their own experiences, tendencies, and ideology. Some of the situations Kellen gets himself into in Spellslinger have parallels with a few of my own experiences – though of course brought into a fantasy context. But overall I'd say my lead characters are both better and worse people than I am.

Nehra frowned. "Do you always run headlong into certain death?" "Sometimes he walks," Dariana said. "Occasionally he shuffles. Once I'm pretty sure I saw him amble into certain death." Such a simple exchange, but I have never laughed so hard in my life. Even though I still have 2 books left, I don't feel like even that is enough time with Brasti, Kest and Falcio and the rest.
