Goodreads asked Andrew Reid:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Andrew Reid The classic advice: read a lot, and write a lot. Be open to the very real possibility that you will write a great deal before any of it ends up being read. Write things that move you, that thrill you. If you can - and it's a talent if you do - write things that make you laugh.

If you can find a decent beta reader or crit partner, then hold onto them. They are like gold dust. Avoid crit forums. In my experience, they are awash with people posting looking for unreserved praise and responders looking to destroy you with pedantry. If there's a great one, and you've found it? Make it your best kept secret.
