Goodreads asked Michael C. Taylor:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Michael C. Taylor One stimulus: I taught a personal finance course for college undergraduates and felt frustrated by the available books that could be used as texts.
Second stimulus: Personal finance books that I've read never assume readers could master the bit of mathematics upon which banking and insurance industries are built - compound interest and discounting cashflows.
Third stimulus - Finance books are typically super-boring, and I thought a lighter tone would help - a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down.
