Line asked Lee Savino:

In the Draekon series, the Zorahn society is described as extremely hierarchical and clan/family based. It seems to have similarities with the old Confucian society, or perhaps ancient Egypt. Where did you get inspiration to write about that type of society and structure?

Lee Savino We based the Zorahn society on the caste structure of India, along with a few other influences (Lili has a German textbook she consults to get ideas for names!).

Sci fi romance is a chance to explore injustice and inequality, so we weave those themes in every chance we get. The Draekons are persecuted for their genes to the point where they're deported to a prison planet and exiled for life. In the last book, we wrote about further persecution--a panel voted on whether to expel the Draekons and rip their new families apart, including separating the baby Kaida from her parents.

Unfortunately, this story line isn't confined to our fiction.
