Hi! When you start on a new book, do you have a story already in mind and characters or do you just have a character and a situation that you start writing from or any other starting point? I guess my question is: Whats your starting point, what do you have at the start of the writing process and what do you develop as you go along writing? Thanks!

Hi Nikola!
To be honest, I'm still learning as I go here. So far I've started with only a basic premise and a main character, then flesh it out as I go. Despite having an end-goal in mind (reaching Castia in KotW, for example) I try to add plenty of surprises along the way.
I really like to be able to plot things out a bit more, but haven't been able to make myself do it yet. I think a hybrid of 'pantsing' and 'plotting' would work best for me, but at the moment I fly completely by the seat of my pants!
While writing Bloody Rose I was about 80% through when I decided to change the main character's origins and rewrite the first three chapters. Once I had, though, I realized that if I wanted to stay true to Tam's new character I would need to rewrite every single scene to suit her, because everything about how she saw the world and interacted with people had changed. I certainly would not recommend doing this!
