Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jess Lake I'm going to answer this for my short story since it is currently my only published work. The idea came from a combination of a story my grandmother told me about working as a switchboard operator for the National Park Service in Washington state when she was 19 years old and a funny Tumblr post I read about people thinking the trees were screaming before they knew what cicadas were.
