I began to think about writing this book after purchasing a quilt at my grandmother's auction 20 years ago. I thought about it over the years, what had it all been through in its years of use by my family. It was very threadbare and obviously had been used quite a bit, so the story formed in my mind about having the quilt tell the story from its point of view.
