Goodreads asked Ed Ruggero:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Ed Ruggero You must read and write in order to improve your craft.
When you like something you've read, ask yourself why. How did the author construct the sentences and paragraphs? Were there word choices that surprised you? How did sentence length and cadence add to the drama? You've got to be able to parse good writing to see how it's constructed.

Then, practice writing. Write in imitation of your favorite authors. Get feedback on your writing. Don't be afraid of criticism; feedback is a gift.

Becoming a better writer is like becoming a better musician--you must practice. Take it apart and put it back together. Put your stuff out there to see how readers respond. Scary but necessary.
