Goodreads asked Ian Pike Hammer:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Ian Pike Hammer Become a student of writing. Get good software. Make a lot of friends with other authors, publishers, editors and ASK QUESTIONS!! Listen to what they are telling you and APPLY it to your life.
Set aside a pre-determined amount of time to write every day and try to stick to it. Outline your storyline for guidance. It's ok to write backward, I.E., you can write the ending first or the middle first. Develop your own style and do what works FOR YOU.
It's ok to think outside the box. If you want to add a funny line to a serial killer's dialog, go ahead. Trust your first judgment.
Lastly, have at least 3 WIP's (works in progress). When your primary WIP comes to a grinding halt (and it likely will!) move on to another project.
