Mr. Turton, Do you feel literature is struggling with this historical moment we live in? I mean...I look to literature for guidance, how to live. Today's literature is dark & confused, as we are...It seems slow to react, like.. how could you write something bigger than the cyberpunk novel we all live in? Your book was a relief...characters working through the chaos. Is literature going through a significant shift?

Stuart Turton I'm glad you're enjoying it. I don't think it's "struggling" - I just think the literary world moves at its own pace. There's a significant trend in the UK, my home country, for uplifting literature at the minute, and that's definitely a reaction against the doom and gloom around us. These are happier stories based around relationships and inspiring events. Maybe this genre would be more your taste at the minute?

Kudos to you, my good man. I really enjoyed 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and like many of your blurb authors, I wish I'd had the idea myself! But clearly, you were the one meant to write it. So thank you. Any chance this has been optioned for screen adaptation?
