Who else wishes the movies were not made? Does it not feel like Jackson is taking all the credit?

I thought the movies were amazing. They are a part of my childhood, more than the books are even. They opened up the mainstream audiences into fantasy. Fantasy may not be where it is now if the movies weren't made and weren't successful. I think that if the movies weren't made, it would be a lot harder for me to read these books. Since they were made, reading the books is almost the same as watching the movies in terms of the nostalgia.

The movies were very uneven in quality, but I don't find myself wishing they hadn't been made. I just wish Jackson had adhered to the original story more strictly. With modern CGI it was finally possible to really do justice to Tolkien's vision of Middle-earth, really bring it to life, but Jackson just couldn't resist tinkering with it. I understand some alterations are needed to translate any written work into a visual medium, but when story elements are changed unnecessarily it's irksome. The screenwriter is never going to be more clever than the original author.
