Mr. Miller, How in American by Day did you come to bring Saranac Lake and Siqourmey Weaver into the story? I have visited Siqourney's camp on Long Lake and met her in NYC several years ago. My secretaries husband was her caretaker. I currently live in Plattsburgh but have spent endless hours in the area that you mention in the story. I am assuming that you have vacationed in the area. Just curious, Jack Mulholland

(view spoiler)[Wow, you are one of the ONLY people who will be this close to the action there. That's wonderful. In fact, if you know anyone who can get her a copy, please let me know. I'll cover the costs. The short answer is that I wanted Irv to send Pinkerton on a wild goose chase so my question was … what would be utterly unexpected, fun for the reader, and make sense dramatically? Once I learned Ms. Weaver had a summer house there (keeping in mind this was 2008 — I don't know whether she still has the property), it was too good to pass up. I loved the idea of Irv knowing her and betting that, yes, Pinkerton was that stupid. "I just lost a bet," is one of my favorite lines in the book. Let me know if my description of the area rang true (if not her house … I didn't even want authenticity there because that would have been overstepping into her privacy, in my view). Best from Oslo, Norway. Derek. (hide spoiler)]

Derek - Words can not do justice to how much I enjoyed 'The Girl In Green.' The book took a complex subject and made into an entertain and compelling story. The characters were memorable and the humanistic story line was elegantly written. I will be recommending your book to all of my friends. Consider me a huge fan! Are you working on anything new?

Dear Derek, congratulations on Norwegian by Night, I just finished it and though it was a brilliant debut novel. In my review I described what I thought was a 'Catch-22' like scene with Donny and Mario talking about shooting Koreans. Were you influenced at all by that great novel? My second question, is your wife Norwegian? You seemed to have some very perceptive insights into Norwegian culture.

Why is Radio Life not available in the US? My book club is discussing Pietro Houdini tonight. In addition to enjoying the reading, I learn so much from each of your books, thank you. I'm planning on rewatching Two Women - it was a great film the first time, but I had no awareness of the history of the Moroccan Goumiers. Keep up the good work, your books are all inspiring.
