Jasia asked Kali Wallace:

Hi! Was there a certain piece of literature that you’ve read that made you want to write Shallow Graves? I’m using your book as a novel review book, and I would love to know. I loved your book and how you made the characters so unique!

Kali Wallace Hi! Thanks for reaching out!

And today in Shamelessly Uncool Author Confessions, the answer is...

It wasn't a book. It was the TV show Supernatural. I was watching that one night and thinking about how I wanted to tell a story from the monster's point of view, because it seemed to me unfair that the monsters were just getting killed all the time without anybody ever asking them if they had their own lives. It sort of snowballed from there.

Which isn't a very helpful answer, I know, but it's what happened. I've always loved all manner of creepy, spooky, monster-filled stories, so the whole monsters-in-plain-sight thing has long been a favorite of mine. But it was a TV show that made me really want to sit down and think about them from the monster's side of the story.
