Goodreads asked Robert Fishell:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Robert Fishell The idea came from reading the sardonic coming-of-age books by James Patterson and Jeff Kinney with my daughter a few years back. I liked the books, but I also thought the genre would make good fodder for satire. I started to write a series of short stories about a 12-year-old boy who gets himself into ridiculous situations, but as I developed my characters, they started pulling me in a different, more serious direction.

I stitched the stories together, adding material for cohesiveness, and wrote an ending to wrap up the various story threads I'd started. The result was the first draft of my novel Joshua.
