I loved your book and have already recommended it to three other people who are reading it right now! I kept thinking how much I would like to find a therapist like you — in past attempts I haven’t managed to find someone I really felt was right for me. What advice do you gave for finding the “right” therapist? Thanks so much for writing! Please keep it up!
Lori Gottlieb
Thanks so much for reading and recommending the book, Kim! You won't know if you've found the "right" therapist until you sit in a room with this person. Go for a consultation and see how you feel after the session. Word of mouth is often a great way to find a good therapist. If you have a friend who loves her therapist, ask her to ask her therapist for a referral for you. Her therapist will likely have a good recommendation.

I really enjoyed Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. I did wonder, however, about how you protected the identities of the patients in the book. They seemed so real. Are the patient sessions you described compilations of multiple patients or did you otherwise disguise their identities?

Hi Lori, I was invited to ask you a question because I rated your book with 5 stars. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in Harrisburg, PA: www.griefrelieftherapy.com. I also am an Instructor in Temple University’s School of Social Work. I have been recommending your book to my students. I think that you did a great job of showing the perspective of being a therapist and being in therapy?

I’m a PsyD student and I love stories, so obviously your book was a delight to read. I like reading, and I love fiction: I love fiction because it forces me to imagine, and empathy (something, I’m sure you know, I will need as a therapist) and compassion are at least 15% imagination. so. what book should I read next?
