Jennifer Voigt Kaplan
I wrote the book to challenge assumptions about this era. My heritage is half German and half German Jew. While the story is fictional, it is based on true family experiences. I grew up with a multilayered understanding of the challenges that Jews and Germans faced during WWII. Particularly in today's political climate, it's important for young people to have access to authentic, historical literature with diverse perspectives.
