Goodreads asked Don Cummings:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Don Cummings Listen to what is inside you. Take classes, certainly---but remember, the bones of any story are:
Character with a problem
Beginning, Middle, End
Answer: Who, What, Where, When, Why (Theme), How (Tone and fun ways to put it all together).
If someone starts pushing you to write something that they think you SHOULD write...RUN AWAY!
Follow your natural time clock. Discipline can mean you write every day...or that you write when you write, but you really get down to it when you do it.
