Goodreads asked Erin Manning:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Erin Manning Writer's block is usually a sign that something has gone wrong with the story. When I start to experience it, I stop and think about what might be wrong. Are the character's thoughts and actions making sense? Is the pacing off? Is there a missing action scene, or (rarely) has there been too much action and not enough exposition? I once abandoned a work-in-progress and only realized years later that what was wrong was the main character! I didn't have any rapport with her, and she kept doing her own thing. If I'd realized that soon enough I would have started over with a completely different type of person, because the MC I created wasn't right for the story.
