Thank you for 'A Gentleman in Moscow' - at some points I was cheering for the small victories. Where did you get such accurate kitchen scenes? I worked as a sous-chef in the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 67.

Amor Towles Michel, I worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant kitchen when I was 14. I guess it was then!

I realized this morning that your "Rules of Civility" is the book I've most often recommended this year. I read it last year, then convinced my book club to read it this fall so I could take my time with it to savor the gorgeous language, to enjoy the storytelling and complex characters, to appreciate the subtle hints along the way.
