Andrew Rowe:
If shadows only make solid illusions how is it that the mimic and tirent in gold illusions were able to use transference mana that is not a mana of type the attunement has access to?

(view spoiler)[The school tests are more complicated than a single Shadow throwing stuff at the students. There are enchantments in use at the facility to enable some of the things to be possible, as you've already seen with things like the test-specific return bells. In addition, there are multiple people involved with running the tests that have different skill sets.
Some of the teachers involved (e.g. Orden) also have multiple attunements, which can provide additional mana types, such as transference.
It's very common for high level attuned to have items to supplement their abilities, too.
So, there are lots of ways that they can make illusions more convincing - or they can simply do things like take a summoned monster and make it look different, if they need something that is more challenging and convincing. (hide spoiler)]

Andrew Rowe:
This is not wholly a question, but there is a question present. I wanted to say that I absolutely love the intrinsic lack of “acceptance” language in the world of arcane ascension. As an individual who bumped up the tree in a world quite the opposite, I love feeling “normal” if not mundane. “Same-sex love? I’m sorry, is that not the norm, just like any other?” What was your motivation to include with such nonchalance?

Since an enchanter can pull mana from other enchanted items why don't enchanters create magic items that are just a bunch of storage ruins and recharging ruins limited to not explode? then they can use the mana stores for enchanting other items and they will recharge themselves. Or is it not possible to pull mana from the storage ruin without destroying the charging ruin?
