The bloodied corpse is in the dumpster. It's raining, six-fifteen a.m. Another detective shows up. I point to the stiff and tell him happily, “I guess this is yours.” I take another sip of my coffee and smile. With a sour look, he says, “Yeah, heard you’re retiring tomorrow.”
