Goodreads asked Steph Győry:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Steph Győry I am a bashing gardener so I know the beginning and the ending of a story, but not what happens in between. I simply follow my characters through my mental landscape, chronicling where they go.

Every once in a while they get stuck because I end up at a point where what happens next isnt obvious. My brain has to spend time dreaming to work out the implications of the situation they've gotten themselves into and find a realistic way out of it that serves the over-arching plot while being true to their personalities, which develop as they move through their world having experiences.

Eventually, one day, everything comes together and that moment or discovery and/or revelation is nothing short of sheer joy; it can bring tears to your eyes and give you goosebumps.
