Strangely enough, 'Mother, Dearest' started out as a man being haunted by the ghost of his mother story. While writing that, more and more ideas started to appear such as what if he could see creatures? What if the world was ending either for real or just in his mind? That made the story mould from being a ghost one in to a hybrid of a horror story and a fantasy one, albeit it, one set in the real world.
