Hi Alexis! Thanks for your question!
So now I'm wondering if what you really mean is "fresh/new authors" and not exactly, "young authors" so I will go with that. I think the one thing I would tell all new authors who are starting out in the literary industry, is that they should not overexert themselves on sites like Linkedin and Goodreads, so on and so forth. I receive too many messages on Linkedin from new and upcoming authors, all in attempts to promote their work to me, but all that does is turn me off and make me NOT want to read their work. And I feel for them, I really do, because I know where they're coming from, but at the same time, it really is a turn-off and I end up not even opening those messages at all. I think the best thing that a fresh, new author can do for their work is to simply give it the diligence and hard work and perseverance that it deserves. Open up a blog, write in it with your whole heart, visit other authors' blogs and leave comments, create a network of people that care about their work genuinely and are willing to care about other people's work, too. Eventually, if people like what you do, you will gain an audience and the rest is history! A history of perseverance, hard work and growth. Furthermore, I would advise a new author against getting too involved with other authors. I'm more interested in being a grassroots author and writing for readers instead of writing to compete with, or to impress, others of my profession. Once you get too involved in the latter, all you'll reap is a bunch of discouragement and pressure.
Hope this answer helps!

Thank you!! SO interesting. Clarifying that I disappeared due to Covid. Still not over it; quite a lingering devastation for one with a pre-existing condition. The idea struck me as revealing a deep truth & was something I had been contemplating before I found your compelling quote. I'm still wanting to discern + distill the dynamics. Wishing to discuss. But this little box won't give the space. Any other ways?
