Goodreads asked Susan Allott:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Susan Allott So far I haven't had a big problem with this. I don't write chronologically, so if there's a scene I feel like writing from the end of the book, or the middle, then I just write it. It makes me feel like I'm in the middle of it all, which is better for me, as a completer-finisher who likes getting things done and who hates the start of a project. Once I've got those key scenes written, I go back and write the ones that lead up to them. Then I go back and smooth it all over. The first chapter of The Silence was one of the last chapters I wrote.
If I ever get stuck, I usually go and hang out some laundry or empty the dishwasher. I often find the solution once I've stepped away from the desk.
