Goodreads asked Mauro Lacovich:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mauro Lacovich There is a fairy tale "Ledendvor" (A. Gardaš, croatian writer). The best translation of Ledendvor would be Icepalace (something like that, in one word). In this fairy tale, the boy goes to the forest and reaches Lendendvor, where various people are imprisoned by sentence because of their behavior. The boy meets a butcher who cheated people and now has pigs' hooves instead of hands; an evil stepmother who must comb her stepdaughter for eternity; spoiled princess ...

I was thrilled with the story, but it's lacked dialogue between the characters. I was wondering, do prisoners understand why they are there? Can they change? is there space for change or new understanding?

So , I decided to write a similar story, but with a little more dialogues. I imagined the main character entering a palace where he meets a few captured characters and tells everyone a story instead of giving advice. I decided that the story should be short and not more than 15 pages long.

And EKALLIM was created with its 480 pages.

P.S.
In 2019 I finished a sequel with the same number of pages.
