Goodreads asked Zara Hoffman:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Zara Hoffman Write from your heart, edit with your brain, and develop a thick skin. I think that about covers it. I find it's best to write from a place of true inspiration and excitement—readers can tell when the author was really into the story and when they weren't, and it affects the reading experience. Editing is a completely logical standpoint and while revising is a mix of the analytical and creative sides, I believe emotions are best locked away during the editing period. Remember, "Kill your darlings." And finally, beta readers, reviewers, and the general public will all have opinions about your book. You may agree, disagree, and be hurt by some of the things they say, but it's better to learn now that you cannot please everyone. It's impossible. Instead, take their constructive criticism, and start writing the next project.
