Are you embarrassed of the misogyny in "Marry Him" or has publishing that book allowed you to become immune to embarrassment via a form of immersion therapy? I'm sorry to hear that expecting to be treated as an equal to your male counterparts "fucked up" your love life, as you said in chapter three, but given that numerous women manage to maintain their dignity and find real love, it's odd that you advocate neither.

Hi Jubilee, I'm so sorry that you didn't read the book or get out of it what most readers do, which is a sense of empowerment from maintaining HIGHER standards about what all the experts agree matter for a lasting, happy marriage and placing less emphasis on the things that don't. I certainly don't see any misogyny in searching for chemistry and passion and equality and genuine love and the character qualities (generosity of spirit, shared values, trustworthiness) and placing less emphasis on, say, someone's height or wardrobe or income or the kinds of things the culture signals as making someone an appealing (male) partner. I hope you'll turn to the chapter you're referring to and read the first paragraph in its entirety: "To be fair, it's not feminism... it's not that I would give back the gains of feminism for anything. Believe me, I wouldn't." Hope that helps clarify!

I'm thinking about talking to a therapist. I am ashamed about it and will not tell anybody. Why do you think people are so uncomfortable with the concept of talking to someone about a problem? Do you think I can resolve my problem (former best friend has distanced herself from me) in just a few sessions?

Lori- thank you so much for your book. It was such a lovely exploration into the humanity that links us all. You briefly mentioned several other jobs/careers you had before you found your way to where you are now. I know you talked a bit about this process in the book, but when you realized you wanted to be a therapist, what was the thing that made this realization 'click' for you?

I did read that in the book! I tried to get Jenna Bush Hager to choose your book for her book club in the Today Show. I have given my book to a friend and highly recommend everyone read this book. Love it!!!! Thank you for pushing yourself to write it and for waiting to write on the topic of your passion. Will you come to Raleigh, NC, Quail Ridge Books?
