Hi Joseph: I'm into the third Shards of Shadow book. I have a question about Blot. She's so funny and such an interesting, rogue-ish type of character. What was the inspiration for her personality and her voice? She gets some of the best dialogue in these books!
Joseph R. Lallo
Blot is fairly heavily influenced by Midna from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in terms of her base appearance, connection to shadows, and the top layer of her personality. The rest sort of built from circumstances. I wanted her to put up a tough front, because deep down she knows she's very vulnerable (at least in the beginning). Steadily the clashes between what she'd learned as she was growing up and actual reality start to uncover a bit more depth and her true character.

You have reignited an unrequited love with your Altruistic AI that learns from dialog and empirical data. Have you mapped/diagrammed/listed the various processes and knowledge bases Ma is currently sporting? Was Ma's altruism an emergent property or an initial design principle from the initial creative session?

Loved Temporal Contingency. I'm rarely a fan of time travel and at first I wasn't sure about the double loop, but a second read through put me into plausible territory. As always, I enjoy Lex's character and loved his interaction with Ma. Will we see any more of him or do you feel you've explored him enough and the well is dry?
