Laura, I'll tell you who this book is for by telling you for whom it isn't: This book (series, actually) isn't for people on the precipice of an emotional breakdown. This could very well be (for some) the straw that breaks their camel-psyche's back. I find the most recent book astonishingly hilarious, but I don't necessarily see myself as someone with typical sensibilities.
