My idea for my most recent book came from my imagination. While I was showering the idea popped in my head. I often have moments like that. When I'm not really focusing on a story line one will just pop into my head. I can envision the entire plot like scenes from a movie. Since I'm a visual writer and reader, the more detailed the better.
