Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Bill Pence In my book Called to Lead: Living and Leading for Jesus in the Workplace, I share what I've learned about calling, vocation, work and leadership from my experience of leading in both the general marketplace and the church for more than 40 years. I actually started the writing process - primarily movie and book reviews - by editing a monthly church newsletter nearly 22 years ago. That newsletter eventually grew to about 30 pages each month. The church newsletter transitioned to an independent blog, CoramDeotheBlog.com about 7 years ago.
I was a leader at a Fortune 50 organization for nearly 38 years, and have been a leader in my church for more than 24 years. I've also served on the boards of two professional organizations. My writing has come from my experiences in the workplace and church, as well as from the many books that I've read about leadership, as well as professional and personal growth.
I didn't initially intend for my writing to turn into a book, but over time it gradually came together. I put together an initial draft of the book two years ago and handed it over to my editor. I continued to write and we added that material to the book. We would go through long periods without working on it, but used the COVID-19 quarantine period to finish it up and publish it.
I hope you find some takeaways from the book that help you to see that God values your work, whatever it is, as long as you are doing it for Him. I also hope that the book helps you to see that servant leadership is the best way to lead.
