Goodreads asked Kendra Griffin:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kendra Griffin I started writing my post-plague series six years ago. This world -- a semi police state with bracelets tracking our immunity in case the Pox returns -- has become somewhat of a real possibility now. In fact far too much of what I imagined has come true. But really, all I wanted to do was examine the sweet but complicated lives of teenagers. The idea of a dystopian future was just a backdrop. I loved the characters I met in my head, and then I had no choice but to see them through. And hopefully safe.

Some people focus on ideas. I focus on people because that's where I enjoy spending my time! Whatever you love about the world, that's your window into your novel. The Pox Ward was actually just meant to be one chapter at the beginning of a sequel -- but once I met Pablo and Prez, I knew I had to learn their story.
