How do you get inspired to write?

Charles N. Palmer Inspiration is everywhere. Observe and be open to it. I visited the Coliseum in Rome in January 2020. There was a large seagull striding along the balustrade that was so imperious that folk started to take photos. 'Surely', I thought, 'this must be the Emperor Augustus reincarnated.' Then I began to imagine other emperors as seagulls: the vicious Caligula, the hopeless Nero. Within moments there was the germ of a (yet unwritten) story.
