Steve asked Charlie Huenemann:

Hi Charlie. This is actually a response to your question, "How does one insert umlauts?" If you are using a Mac, it is quite easy. To type ö, you type option + u, followed by the letter you want to put the umlaut over. This works for ä, ö, and ü, but strangely enough also enables the nonsensical ë, ï, and ÿ. It doesn't seem to work with consonants. If you use something other than a Mac, you are screwed. Steve

Charlie Huenemann Alas, PC! Thanks anyway.
