Goodreads asked Stephanie Kent:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stephanie Kent The Call Me Ishmael Phone Book started as an online project. My co-author Logan and I were in a bar in New York talking about our favorite opening lines in literature, when we started discussing the first line of Moby-Dick: Call me Ishmael. We spotted a pun in the line and wondered what would happen if Ishmael had a cell phone. Twenty-four hours later, we had set up a voicemail box and invited book lovers to call and leave anonymous messages about books they love.

We now have thousands of calls about hundreds of books, and decided to publish them as an anthology, designed like a retro telephone directory.
