Goodreads asked Dan Hanks:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Dan Hanks These questions are fun so I'm going to keep doing them.

I love the editing part of writing. The first draft has its moments, especially if you hit a bit of a roll and can plough through a scene with aspects that you know are special. But it's often a slog to get through the whole thing.

For me, the editing where the magic happens. You tidy up the plot, bring out the characters' personalities more, tease out the world building set decorations. Make it readable. Get to understand what exactly you've written and then make it better. That's a whole bunch of fun.
