How do you deal with writer’s block?

A.D. Davies With a kick up the bum. Whenever I'm not "in the mood" I ask myself: "If you were a self-employed mechanic and just kinda didn't feel like opening up the shop or fixing that last clients car today because maybe the light isn't right or the inspiration fairy hasn't visited, could you get away with it?" The answer is always no. Now, of course sometimes the mind can't quite hammer out 2000 words by sheer brute force, but there is ALWAYS something writing-connected to do, whether that's a blog, website updates, outlining the novel I might start next year... I can ALWAYS do something if I kick myself hard enough.
