Karen asked Martha Hall Kelly:

I just finished reading "Lilac Girls" and it is outstanding as well as "Sunflower Girls." I am confused about Eliza being Caroline's mother and being a Woolsey sister during the Civil War. Now I am off to read Lilac Girls part 2 which features Eliza during World War I. Is Eliza just a popular family name because she couldn't have lived during all three time periods?

Martha Hall Kelly Hi Karen, Great questions--I'm working on a family tree to put on my website since it's hard to keep track of the names sometimes...Caroline's grandmother was Jane Eliza Woolsey. She had seven daughters, one named Eliza. Eliza's youngest sister Carry (short for Caroline) named her only child Eliza. That child grew up and married Henry Ferriday and she became Eliza Ferriday. She and Henry had one child, Caroline Woolsey Ferriday we know and love from Lilac Girls. Hope that helps!
