Goodreads asked Jane Enright:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jane Enright I believe you are what you believe, and that all of us have the ability to create a new storyline for ourselves. I also believe in living an intentional life and making things happen.

I came to books late in life; that is I consciously never sat down and said "I am going to write a book" until I was 52 years old. Rather, I had experiences and hints of encouragement that pushed me in that direction.

Ask yourself: Am I writing to say I wrote a book, or am I writing to establish or enhance an already existing career? If it is the former, any publisher path will do. However, if it is the latter, you need to research and shortlist publishers and opportunities that align with your goals and objectives—otherwise, you can waste precious time sending your work to people who may never read or appreciate it.

Start small by fielding your work with blog posts, or submit your work on digital platforms like vocalmedia.com where you can keep the copyright to your creations and obtain feedback. Align yourself with a publishing partner that compliments your values and desired outcomes.

Believe in yourself and be strategic!
