Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Haven Iverson Mabel the Tumbleweed is a blend of my children's brilliant personalities. But I became obsessed with tumbleweeds when I was getting my MFA in fiction and the writer Joy Williams likened her hair to a tumbleweed. After years of living in the dry climate of the American West, I also have hair that on some days looks like a tumbleweed sitting on top of my head.
