Michele Wright asked Alka Joshi:

Did you intend for a 13 year old Indian girl to be so outspoken? That age in America is called the tweenager. And it can be one that is laden with lots of door slamming and mouthing off and wondered if that held true in Indian culture.

Alka Joshi I was thinking of Radha not so much as a teenager but as the young girl inside all of us who dances with abandon and sings loudly and feels she's complete until the world starts telling her she needs to comport herself more decorously, talk more softly, be less "aggressive," more "feminine", and all the other ways in which she is left feeling that she's not enough just as she is. I've felt the pressure to conform to some softer standard as I think all women have in every culture around the world.
