Goodreads asked Kevin Barhydt:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Kevin Barhydt Listening to readers reflect their interpretation of my writing. In part, I feel like every discussion or response I receive is like a continuation of my writing. Each reader's reflections add another sentence, an endnote of a kind, which expand my original work.

I know of a stone structure called Opus 40, which was never completed. The creator died after 39 years. Today, a part of the landscape art is an unfinished rock wall. There you will see where visitors have placed their own stones to continue the work of the creator. That I think embodies the best image of how I hope my work will endure, and that I think is the best a writer can hope for.
