Goodreads asked Patti R. Albaugh:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Patti R. Albaugh I like to write about historical decades from a woman's point of view. I grew up in a small town, and I have the most to say about that setting! My first novel, The Ups and Downs of Miss Margaret Landings, was inspired by many of my own experiences (not all, though). I remember the 50s clearly, so an elevator operator in a small town department store seemed a perfect setting to explore how a slightly rebellious and single woman with a big secret would live in that world. When I considered what story I could write for a single woman in the 60s, I knew I had to include the Vietnam War, a signature mark on my generation. What if the woman were anti-war and married to a deployed Marine? And my mind spun with possibilities! Thus, Rebecca Benson's War emerged from the keyboard.
