Goodreads asked Miriam Halahmy:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Miriam Halahmy Lovely question. Life has so many mysteries to explore and perhaps you are a budding writer who would like to explore your own mysteries. A starting point could be quite simple - someone you brushed past in the street who starts your imagination spinning in different directions; a moment when you are out walking and you realise you are lost; a time when you were in extreme danger. When I was nine I still hadn't learn to swim independently. I was cycling alone on the bank of the local canal where we lived in West London. It was a slippery path and the bike skidded and toppled me. I nearly fell in the water and there was no one around who could have saved me. What would have happened if I had fallen in? I often think of that moment and in fact that canal features in my book The Emergency Zoo. Children had a lot more freedom when I was growing up and as a result many more things happened to them. What has happened in your life which is a mystery you could explore in fiction?
