Goodreads asked Michelle Renyé:

How do you get inspired to write?

Michelle Renyé That's a complex question, because creativity is very sensitive to all kinds of things. I do need to say here that I don't earn a living with writing, which means I just write when I get inspired or feel curious about exploring something or delving deeper into something...

In poetry, I tend to find a first line or imagine, and then the rest seems to unfold from that.
In short stories, this very much happened as I wrote in Bella y la bestia, but for years I had been wanting to write my own version of this story -- not that I actually thought about anything. But then the girl appeared as Scout in Harper's To Kill a Mockingbird, and the old man our Spanish writer Ferlosio, who I love!
