Lissette asked Michelle Hodkin:

Hi Michelle! I loved the Mara Dyer series. I wanted to know what is the significance of the doll of Mara's grandmother? it is mentioned in Evolution and in Retribution. Also, I really like how Mara and her friends travel to different places in Retribution.

Michelle Hodkin Thank you!

The significance of the doll, for Mara's grandmother, was that it was her only physical tie to the first family she could ever really remember. It was the most valuable thing she had, which is why she took it from the Shaw household when she fled London with the Professor.

And Mara burned it. #metaphor
