Brigid Kemmerer:
Hey Brigid! I'm reading Defy the Night right now, and I can't get enough of it. My personal favorite aspect of it though, is the relationship of the brothers-Harriston and Corrick (and I totally call him Cory in my head too lol, just like Harriston). So here's my question. Would you consider placing more family dynamics at the forefront of your books? (Possibly including more siblings and/or parents?)
Brigid Kemmerer
Hi! I *LOVE* family dynamics, and I love this question. I'm so glad you're enjoying the relationship between Harristan and Corrick.
I do have to ask if you've read any of my other books, because if you haven't, you're in luck: Family relationships (whether true family or found family) are quite possibly the primary focus of every single story. Here's a quick rundown:
The Elemental Series (5-book series, beginning with Storm): Paranormal YA. Four orphaned brothers ranging in age from 16-23 are trying to navigate life while trying to hide their powers over earth, air, fire, and water.

Thicker than Water: Paranormal YA. After his mother is murdered, Thomas needs to figure out how to cope with his new stepfather -- and the appearance of a brother he never knew he had.

Letters to the Lost: Contemporary YA. Declan is coping with the loss of his sister in a drunk driving accident, and he struggles with his new stepfather. Juliet lost her mother, and she has a complicated time figuring out how to get along with father, who's grieving in his own way.

More Than We Can Tell: Contemporary YA. Rev was severely abused as a child, but he was rescued, placed in foster care, and has new adoptive parents. But when he's 18, his abusive father wants to initiate contact again, and he's not sure how to cope with it.

Call It What You Want: Contemporary YA. Rob goes from lacrosse star to social pariah after it's discovered that his father was stealing from everyone in town. Maegan discovers that her "perfect" sister is pregnant and helps her keep it a secret.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely: YA Fantasy. Harper is coping with her mother's illness and her father's desertion, while Rhen is coping with what his poor choices did to his family.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken: YA Fantasy. The sisterly relationship between Lia Mara and Nolla Verin, along with their very complex relationship with their mother, is the forefront of Lia Mara's character arc.

A Vow So Bold and Deadly: YA Fantasy. I can't say much about this one without being spoiler-y, but suffice to say that resolving sibling differences is the absolute core of the conflict in this book.

Forging Silver into Stars: YA Fantasy. This one is full of complex parental/sibling dynamics. It's a May 2022 release so I can't say much more than that at this point.
