My most recent book, Rage, available on Kindle Vella as a serial, was based in part on an encounter I had many years ago with a decrepit, shabbily dressed old man in a cowboy hat who turned out to be a wealthy coal miner who owned his own island, private jet, and a Rolls Royce.
